REVICTIMIZATION
One of the primary ways in which to prevent revictimization is to provide education and treatment those who have alaready been victims of violence. Women who become victims of sexual assault are at much higher risk than other women of being victimized again. Research has suggested that psychological processes initiated by sexual victimization, especially in childhood and adolescence, result in behaviors that can increase victims’ exposure to potential offenders and make them more vulnerable to the tactics of the offenders they encounter. One of the most fruitful areas of research in criminology today is work on repeat victimization. Findings are that a small percentage of the population experiences a relatively large proportion of all crime and that one of the strongest predictors of victimization is previous victimization.
AMERICAN DANCE THERAPY ASSOCIATION www.adta.org
Dance/Movement Therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote emotional, cognitive, physical, and social integration of individuals.
Dance/Movement Therapy is practiced in mental health, rehabilitation, medical, educational, and forensic settings, and in nursing homes, day care centers, disease prevention, and health promotion programs.
The dance/movement therapist focuses on movement behavior as it emerges in the therapeutic relationship. Expressive, communicative, and adaptive behaviors are used for group and individual treatment.
Body movement as the core component of dance simultaneously provides the means of assessment and the mode of intervention for dance/movement therapy.
Pioneering the Body-Mind Interface
For over 50 years, Dance/Movement Therapists have pioneered the understanding of how body and mind interact in health and in illness.
Whether the issue is the will to live, a search for meaning or motility, or the ability to feel love for life, Dance/Movement Therapists mobilize resources from that place within where body and mind are one.

What is PTSD?
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD, is an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened. Traumatic events that may trigger PTSD include violent personal assaults, natural or human-caused disasters, accidents, or military combat.
Signs & Symptoms
People with PTSD have persistent frightening thoughts and memories of their ordeal and feel emotionally numb, especially with people they were once close to. They may experience sleep problems, feel detached or numb, or be easily startled.
Treatment
Effective treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder are available, and research is yielding new, improved therapies that can help most people with PTSD and other anxiety disorders lead productive, fulfilling lives.
